Call for Papers: The Mann Family – Lives and Fictions (Dartmouth College, October 24-25, 2019)
Application deadline: August 20, 2019
This workshop is organized on the occasion of the Montgomery residence of Frido Mann at Dartmouth College. Its goal is to raise interest in research on the Mann family, to connect junior and senior scholars working in this field, and to
move articles towards publication.
Invited participants will submit an article length paper by October 1, 2019 (6000-9000 words in MLA format). Their papers will be pre-circulated and then discussed over the two days of the workshop. Confirmed project readers are Tobias
Boes (University of Notre Dame), Todd Kontje (University of California-San Diego), Irmela von der Lühe (Freie Universität Berlin), Ellis Shookman (Dartmouth College), Robert Tobin (Clark University) and Hans Vaget (Smith College). Participants will also interact
with writer and Montgomery fellow Frido Mann.
Particularly welcome are projects with new approaches or material on Mann biographies and fictions, e.g., relating to film and theater, sexuality, global dimensions, visions of race, Jewishness, scientific discourses, fascism and exile.
Preference will be given to advanced graduate students and junior faculty, but all applications with unpublished projects are welcome and will be considered. Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered.
This Dartmouth German Studies workshop is co-sponsored with the Harris Distinguished Visiting Professorship Program and the Montgomery Fellows Program. Please submit a one-page proposal for an article-length paper by August 20th, 2019 to Professor Veronika Fuechtner at [log in to unmask].
