I’ll settle down to read it one more time. But just thought of the metaphor of “ether” afflicting ‘modern’ sensibility so that it is immune to any notion of good and evil, a material sensibility oblivious of its spiritual moorings. This note is rampant through and through Eliot’s later verse.
