Just to clarify for those in other parts of the state, I'm assuming you're referring to the Horseshoe Lake in Madison County, Illinois. There's another one in Alexander County, Illinois, as well as the one in Carondelet Park in St. Louis.

With the forecast of a front moving in I took a trip to Horseshoe Lake but found it mostly frozen over. The 5 mute swans are still there, they looked quite content sleeping on the ice. Nice bald eagle in a tree, several red tailed hawks, 2 canada geese and a bunch of gulls on the lake by the tracks. The ramp from 44/55 to the Poplar street bridge is still closed.
