Call for Proposals: American Association of Teachers of German / American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages joint annual conference - New Orleans, November 16-18, 2018

Comics and Graphic Novels in the German Classroom

Comics, graphic novels, and manga are experiencing a creative and critical boom in German-speaking Europe. This panel invites contributions on the ways comics can be utilized at all levels in the German language classroom. How can the medium be employed to teach linguistic structures and/or facilitate communication? How can comics be used to challenge monolithic notions of "German culture"? How can visual representation inspire creative expression, open discussions on diversity and inclusivity, and promote student engagement? What are strategies for incorporating comics into existing curricula?
