Call for abstracts for the panel: Wozu Presse?

This panel seeks papers on German, Austrian, and Swiss texts of any kind that examine the role of the fourth (and fifth) estates in shaping or altering the status quo. Papers that focus on the representation of the press or journalists in literature, film, comics, graphic novels, cartoons, etc.; on literary journalism; on specific influential journalists; and on specific journals or newspapers are welcome. Additionally, the panel seeks practical papers on how current news sources are utilized in the German classroom as well as papers comparing international and national versions and/or historical and contemporary versions of German, Swiss, and Austrian newspapers, or papers analyzing certain columns and supplements like “Halt die Fresse” or “Literaturmagazin” or the role of newspaper or journal advertisements. Discussions of news shows, fake news shows or of the line between news and documentary are relevant as well.
