As the Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) window draws to a close, there have been many questions on how best to enter BBS data into eBird. While the tendency is to enter the entire 25 mile route into a single list, this is not recommended. The best way to enter data is by entering 50 stationary point counts- one at each stop. This allows for maximum value and use of the observation. If that is not possible it is recommended to enter the data as a traveling count in segments no longer than 5 miles.

In the future eBird hopes BBS will create an export file that allows for easy upload into ebird or vice versa. We will keep you posted.

Please contact one of us off list if you have any questions.
