Mark your calendar for birding activities, Sunday, April 23 at Rock Bridge Memorial State Park on Hwy. 163 just south of Columbia.

Two bird walks (one morning, one afternoon) are offered by Columbia Audubon Society members as part of the activities to celebrate the dedication of the interactive wayside panel, a project of the Audubon Society of Missouri (ASM) and the Department of Natural Resources Division of State Parks(DNR).  

The 2 p.m. dedication ceremony at the Rock Bridge Memorial State Park Grasslands Trailhead is to officially unveil the interactive wayside panel with a QR downloadable park bird checklist.

Sunday, April 23, 8:30 a.m.
Destination: Rock Bridge Memorial State Park, Columbia, MO
Departure Point: Devil’s Ice Box Parking Lot. This walk will center on creek bottom habitats.

Meet at the parking lot at 8:30 a.m. for about a 2-hour walk along the creek and Sinkhole Trail.

Participants are invited to a Dutch treat lunch at a Columbia eatery to catch up with one another and share birding tales. Directions will be given after the morning bird walk.

Destination: Rock Bridge Memorial State Park, Columbia, MO
Departure Point: Grasslands Trailhead. This walk will feature grasslands, small ponds, sinkholes.

Those attending the 2 p.m. dedication ceremony are asked to park at the Devil’s Ice Box parking lot no later than 1:30 p.m. to carpool to the Grassland parking lot which doesn't hold enough cars for the event.

Following the dedication ceremony at 2 p.m., Greg Leonard will lead a bird walk on the Grassland Trail.
