Mobirders,

Jerry and Margie will be sharing the benefits of their expertise in southern Barry County birding on a field trip at the ASM Spring Meeting. If you would like to experience this super birding area--either vicariously or by making a trip there this week, or just to learn about where and what you'll experience on that field trip in May, take a look at the BIRDERS' GUIDE FOR ROARING RIVER STATE PARK, CONSERVATION AREA, AND VICINITY, by Jeff Cantrell.

Jeff's depiction of southern Barry County and tips on where to go and what to expect is on the ASM website at http://www.mobirds.org/Locations/SiteGuides.aspx. You can read it online or download it (with the advantage of seeing the photos). You can then read it on your computer and/or print it out to have with you as you enjoy one of Missouri's more beautiful areas.

See you there in May,

Edge Wade
ASM Conservation Partnership Coordinator

Subject: Barry County Update

Migration is beginning to pick up steam in Barry County.  Today Margie & I added several first of year birds, including 11 Ovenbirds, 1 Worm-eating, 10 Blue-winged, 5 Kentucky, and 12 Hooded Warblers.  Margie's gifted ears are the key to our success.   She hears the birds long before I do and points me in the right direction.  Most of the warblers were on Sugar Camp Road and Butler Hollow Road in the Mark Twain National Forest.  No Cerulean's yet.  We also added White-eyed and Red-eyed Vireos, Purple Martins, and Brown Thrasher.
We came across two different pairs of Red-shouldered Hawks that were calling back and forth to each other as we spooked them off of their territory.  Both times we hunted for a nest, but came up empty.
