We have a couple of non-investigative reporting positions open if anyone knows someone who might be interested. They are based in Sarajevo. 


First Position

Daily News Editor at OCCRP 

The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) is an award-winning non-profit investigative journalism organization based in Sarajevo. It has about 20 partners across Eastern Europe to Central Asia, and specializes in cross-border projects exposing serious wrongdoing.

It has a thriving daily news operation covering the latest developments in organized 
crime and corruption in Eastern Europe, Russia, the Caucasus, and Central Asia.

Main Responsibilities:

You’ll manage a four person daily news team covering the world from Europe to the edge of China. You will edit daily stories in English produced by your staff and by local 
OCCRP partners.  You'll manage OCCRP's 30,000 strong Facebook community and Twitter accounts to promote for your stories. 

You'll be flexible switching between these tasks as the day and the news requires.

Good writing and re-writing skills in the English language and news judgment are 
essential. Additional language skills a plus especially Russian. This position requires 
native-level English. 

You will quickly develop a thorough understanding of organized crime and corruption in the region including causes and impacts.

The Ideal Candidate:

You will be comfortable managing young reporters and interns and dealing with the stress and unpredictability of a small news team.  

You will be comfortable chasing leads, making contacts by phone, email and in person, and overseeing stories through to timely completion.

You will also be adept at re-writing imperfect copy, sometimes written by non-native 

English speakers, and ensuring it complies with high standards of accuracy, fairness and libel law.

You'll already have daily news experience. You'll also need to demonstrate a passion for news and an ambition to deliver quality journalism.

Russian-speaking Reporter/Sub-Editor at OCCRP

Main Responsibilities:

You’ll produce stories in English for the daily news section, covering the Russian-
speaking world, and write eye-catching Facebook and Twitter promotions for your 
stories. 

You’ll also support the news editor in sub-editing news stories written in English by 
correspondents across the region. 

You'll be flexible switching between these tasks as the day requires.

Good writing and re-writing skills in English language and news judgment are essential. 

Fluency in Russian is also essential so that you can effectively cover the Russian-speaking world.

You will quickly develop a thorough understanding of organized crime and corruption in the region including causes and impacts.

You will have native-level English and fluent Russian language skills.
