So, MO birders, maybe there are Black-bellied Whistling Duck at your regularly-visited wetland area. Time to check Eagle Bluff, Squaw Creek, Schell-Osage, Four Rivers, Swan Lake, Ted Shanks, Riverlands MBS, etc.
They might nest or renest in a wood duck box near a farm pond as they have in the past in MO.

Good Luck!

This simply fits a pattern we've seen in recent years for appearance of both whistling ducks in the state--especially in the Southeast. A single was seen by Chris Barrigar last week at Mingo.

Went out over lunch, and the six birds are still there. I never even had to leave the asphalt parking lot!

Have to wonder with massive flooding and bad weather in their normal range, will more southern birds make their way to the Midwest this late spring? The Houston area, where BBWD are quite common, got 10 inches of rain in 3 hours yesterday. You have to think that water has reached their nesting cavities by now in some places.
