All Ivory Gull sightings are highly suspect right now. I have been taking calls at work about sightings ever since the short article and photo came out in the March MO Cons. Mag. But it is always good to check and ask good questions to be sure, for example, "Did it have a slightly gray back and wings and a black ring on its bill." And, when they answer in the positive...   I get accused of entrapment a lot when quizzing folks about bird IDs over the phone; I think it best to discribe something that is not what they think they saw and give them have a chance to say no, it was ... 

And sometimes someone really has observed a very cool bird that we all want to see. Our woodcock was calling again tonight. Time for Smith's longspurs to show up.
