Sand Prairie Rd, heading north from Cahokia Mounds, had large flocks of Longspurs mixed with some Horned Larks this afternoon. Seemed to be mainly Lapland Longspurs but there could have been others mixed in. There's no good place to pull off the road, so its hard to study individuals in the flock for long. Fun to watch them swirling around and dropping back down every time a car went by, and to hear them.
