Great seeing you and all the other assorted birders! Great bird and great that we all got to see the Arctic Gull. Just sorry that Christi Mayo was not in that company of birders which got to view the bird!

Well, Scott, I was in that group of 30 and more birders around 1:00
on Tuesday, Jan. 6, and would have liked a closer look at the Ivory Gull, but
was thrilled to be able to put it on my Missouri list. Some of the IL birders
were trying to persuade it to come closer. I did watch it preen, then walk over
to an open area of water, then took a bath! He was splashing water over onto his
back and shaking his tail. Then it raised its snow white wings and disappeared
out of my scope view. I couldn’t get my binoculars on it but the lady beside me
watched it fly on “down” the river (to our left). We ate at the Pier when it
opened at 11:00 and were upstairs viewing when someone got a text that it was
being seen from the island which has a single lane bridge to it. It was fun to
be involved in the birder stampede, seeing 6 cars crossing that little bridge at
the same time, and then walking down to find a huge number of scopes and people.
I knew 10 or 15 of them and exchanged hugs, before John from Kansas City helped
me get my scope on the Ivory Gull. I would have loved to meet some of the other
birders there; birders are fantastic people to know!
