CFP, Panel(s): Zeitschriften/Literatur im 19.Jahrhundert

Thirty-Ninth Annual German Studies Association Conference

October 14, 2015

Washington, D.C.

This series of panels seeks to foreground new approaches to the relationship between literary texts and periodical publication in the nineteenth century.

Building on recent work in literary and book history, media theory, and narrative theory that sheds new light on the periodical as one of the primary venues for and catalysts of literary production across a variety of eras, this panel seeks to workshop new research on nineteenth-century Zeitschriftenliteratur in particular.

Papers might address issues such as temporality and serialized narrative; collection and compilation; reading practices and the printed page; text and image; authorship and collaboration; para/intertextuality; the relation between literary and non-literary texts; reprinting, repurposing, and translation (remediation); journal editions vs. book editions.
