Panels on “Hauntings of the Past: Political & Personal Hi/stories in Film and Literature” at the
39th Annual Conference of the German Studies Association (GSA)
October 1-4, 2015

This panel will explore innovative techniques, perspectives and themes in German-language fiction, autobiography, and film dealing with hauntings of West and East Germany’s and Austria’s past in the twentieth century. Individual paper abstracts are invited for two or possibly three panels on any related topic which might include, but is not limited to, the following areas:

 

·         memories of the Holocaust and Nazi past

·         memories of the Stasi past

·         gender in representations of the Holocaust

·         transgenerational trauma passed on to the 2nd & 3rd generations

·         differences in fictional vs. autobiographical representations of the past

·         revisionist narratives of recent German history in biography, fiction and cinema
