Shaw is one of my favorite places to hike and bird.  I would prefer neither, but if I had to choose the lesser of two evils, I would choose the dogs.

A kennel building won't mar the view as a monster cement kiln will.  It also won't burn waste chemicals as part of its production process.

Thanks!

Uh oh. Barking dogs? We don't want that so close to a prime birding site.

I got the same response that the file was closed. In a related news story, the current owner of the property stated he would build an 88 dog boarding kennel there if the CU permit is denied. The sale of the land to the concrete company is contingent on the approval of the permit. Either of these developments is disheartening.

Here is the response I received from an email I sent to the Review Committee about the proposed concrete plant:

Ms. Petty,

I’m sorry, but the record for this file was only left open until February 28. I cannot forward these comments to the Planning & Zoning Commission or put them in the file as testimony.

There is no update to give at this point, except to say that the Review Committee recommended approval to the rest of the Planning & Zoning Commission. The decision will not be made until March 18, 2014 at the 7p meeting.

For those interested in the plans for a concrete plant next to Shaw Nature Reserve, here is a story from the Washington Missourian, which Gary Bohn sent me.
