Hi all,

Mike Beck found a winter-plumage female Long-tailed Duck in the small area of open water around the marina at Blue Springs Lake (Fleming Park - Jackson Co.). In a sad commentary on local avian hospitality, the bird had a small fish in it's bill which was rudely taken away by a male Hooded Merganser. Take the Bowlin Road exit off of I-470, and continue through the Fleming Park entrance. Bowlin Road continues as NE County Park Rd. which dead ends at the marina. Photos here:
