Drove through Columbia Bottom last evening just before sunset. Almost had
to stop & shoo the horned larks out of the way -- they were dust-bathing in
the new gravel. Saw also some killdeer, quite a few indigo buntings &
red-wings, many great blue heron, a couple flocks of little blue heron, more
great egrets that ever before, with a few snowy egret mixed in, and 2 or 3
night herons (probably black-crowned, unable to determine). Ponds 1 & 2
were almost solid egret. Some 'dancing' going on.
Haven't checked out the main road yet, but the paved stretch from the levee
to the confluence appears totally undamaged -- wish the streets in my suburb
were so nice.
