Yesterday, Mark McKellar of the Backyard Bird Center in Kansas City, North, led one of his regular Thursday morning outings to Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary. We had a nice morning of birding, and members of the group saw and/or heard the following:
Red-shouldered Hawk White-breasted Nuthatches
Belted Kingfisher Carolina Wrens
Red-bellied Woodpeckers Eastern Bluebirds
Northern Flickers American Robins
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker Cedar Waxwing
Downy Woodpeckers Chipping Sparrows
Blue Jays White-throated Sparrow
American Crows Northern Cardinal
Black-capped Chickadees American Goldfinch
We saw two flocks of Eastern Bluebirds foraging in different locations at the sanctuary. For me, those were the largest numbers of E. Bluebirds I've seen at once -- a real treat.
Good birding!
