I found my first EUTS just north of Saint Charles. (In a somewhat rural farm yard.)

I always find EUTS at a Lutheran School parking lot on Hwy 94 north of St Charles about 3-4 miles - on left - brick sign in front always has them sitting on it.Catherine DavisWeldon Spring [log in to unmask]

Larry,

Kudos on the new MO species - Eurasian Tree Sparrow! 300 species is definitely quite a feat, congrats!

I think I should sit down and take stock at my MO total species . . . I'd guess I'm flailing about somewhere between 260 and 270 species. I'll leave that for a sunny winter's day to compile that number.

Should anyone else be looking for the Eurasian Tree Sparrow, I have always had good luck with it at Columbia Bottoms Conservation Area there in northeast St. Louis. There is a population of about 30 that visit their feeders and or are around the parking lot of the visitor center. I've visited the St. Louis area 3 times now with enough time to go to Columbia Bottoms CA and have a 100% success rate of seeing them there.
