This website has information on EVERYTHING you could possibly want/need to know about helping bluebirds and other NATIVE cavity nesters. The Missouri Bluebird Society would also be more than happy to answer any questions. http://missouribluebird.wordpress.com/
Your neighbor will need to resort to “extreme” measures to get rid of the sparrows. House sparrows will not hesitate to kill the adult bluebirds in order to use the nest box. Sorry to be so glum. Tell her good luck.

Subject: Question -- No Sighting

A friend here in Farmington has been able to attract bluebirds to her residential area. However, the House Sparrows have now been ejecting the bluebirds. Does anyone have a suggestion on how she can keep the sparrows away? She actually watched as a sparrow landed on the house, stuck its head in and pulled out a bluebird. I guess bluebirds don’t fight back.
