I went down and waded out into Swan Lake Pool to check on Shorebirds and stuff again. The water level was up over last week due to recent rains. Lots of Dabbling Ducks, some Pelicans, and Cormorants, but Shorebird numbers were down. Saw one flock of about 85 Am. Golden Plovers flying around, and bunch of Wilson's Snipe, but otherwise just a few Greater Yellowlegs, and couple of Pectoral Sandpipers. The vegetation is starting to grow up now too, esp the River Bulrush that is sprouting back after being disked up last year. A couple of Immature Bald Eagles, and couple of Northern Harriers were keeping things stirred up. A Coyote was patrolling the edges. Had one American Pipit in the marsh and watched a flock of couple dozen land in some corn stubble. Many singing Song and
Swamp Sparrows in the wet edges, and White-throated, White-crowned, and Savannah Sparrows elsewhere. Saw a Vesper Sparrow along gravel road just north of the refuge. Still plenty of DE Juncos around. Chipping Sparrows singing at Pershing S.P.
