On 15 February as we were returning to Springdale, AR, after seeing the
Asbury Snowy Owl, we stopped at Bella Vista, AR so pictures could be taken
of several rookeries there.  Standing Great Blue Herons were on nests that
could be seen from the highway.  We pulled off the highway into a housing
area so better pictures could be taken.

    Turkey Vultures also wintered down here in the

    southwest.  

    Another sign of an early spring:  Great Blue Herons

    were already sitting on a couple of heronries in

    Newton County yesterday.  That used to be a mid

    March event also.
