The interior of Swan Lake NWR, Chariton Co., Mo. will be open for wildlife viewing on Sat. Feb 18. The aim is to give people the chance to see the large numbers of Snow Geese and Bald Eagles that are usually on the refuge at that time.- today's count was 124,000 Snow Geese. Some of us Grand River Audubon members have been lobbying for this to happen for a few years now. Persistence often pays off! The interior is closed until early March otherwise.
There will be a photo contest also for best picts of SNGO and BAEA. Photos need to be taken to the Visitor Center for judging. There maybe other events too. Hopefully more details soon.
This all depends on the Weather of course - if there is a big Snow/Ice storm it probably won't happen.
