We have done the Platte Co. count the last two years, I just have not entered the data on the website. It has been sent in to the state compiler, though. Other than a few friends, no one has contacted me to help with the count, it is basically a two to five person count each year.

Happy birding,

Thanks Larry! After searching the ASM
website for NAMC data, as far as I can tell, Platte and Jackson Counties have
only conducted (between the two of them) 5 NAMCs in the past 10 years. So Iíll
renew my request for wonderful, willing, and able volunteers to help us with
Wings Over Weston on May 14th. Leading bird walks, helping scouts
work towards their Bird Study Merit Badges, and opening up the world of birding
to new and potential members and birders certainly has its rewards doesnít it?

Thank you everyone!

P.S. If you would like a flyer to help
distribute for us, please contact me off list at [log in to unmask]

Christine, there was a count scheduled
in 2010 but apparently it was not conducted as there are no birds reported on
their count day. Ruth Simmons name is given
as the compiler for that county. This information
can be found on the ASM Website.

  When we first chose the
dates for Wings Over Weston last year, the committee was unaware that there
was such a thing as the North American Migratory Bird Count. This year,
because Burroughs Audubon is hosting ASM the first weekend and Motherís Day
is May 8th, we chose the following weekend (May 14) for Wings Over
Weston. (Motherís Day affected our number of volunteers.) I
understand and respect everyoneís view and Edge is correct that spring is
frantic and we are bound to have activities that overlap. As Wings Over
Weston continues to grow, and as long as two other state agencies are joining
with National Audubon / Burroughs Audubon we plan for it to be a yearly
event. Itís wonderful to have support, from all levels, from the
Missouri State Parks, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and the
Missouri Department of Conservation. We also have sponsorship from
KCPL, Platte County Parks and Recreation, the City of Weston, and more.
A birding festival that opens up the world of birding to those who have never
experienced it encourages more membership and a love for birding. This is
quite an advantage for all of us. Having IMBD as a catalyst helps even
more as we reach out to non-birders.
So, Iíd like to ask two
questions. How does the NAMC work / how many hours does it last and is
there a way to incorporate the NAMC so that Weston Bend and the Iatan/Weston
River Corridor IBA can be included? Who oversees the NAMC for Platte

I echo Steve's regret at the date chosen for this
Clearly, the birding community needs to communicate
more clearly, especially when different elements draw up calendars.
Perhaps we could have a feature on the ASM web page
that is a CALENDAR of BIRDING-RELATED EVENTS. As each group schedules
an event (Migration Day, ASM Spring Meeting, Audubon Missouri trip, Christmas
Bird Count, Day with Wildlife, Wings over Weston, Audubon Chapter Field
Trips, etc., these events could be placed on the calendar.
Groups or individuals working to schedule an event
or a field trip could easily check this resource before setting a date.
Some conflicts are inevitable, especially with the frantic activity of
Spring, but some major overlaps could and should be avoided.

It is unfortunate that this is same day
