The poor bird looks so pitiful, but very resourceful!  Does anyone know if this kind of injury heals by itself, or is this bird going to have to work so hard to be able to eat and survive?

Just shot from my feeder. He's doing good scooping up seed. Not so good at
the suet cage though.
