It would be so much easier if both Lesser and Greater were side by side or 
if there were a look at the underneath wing! I'm inclined to call the scaups 
in these pictures Greater because of the wide black tip on the bill, the 
consistent greenish tint to head, the very, very white sides, the rounded 
looking head. The female's head did look peaked in one picture, but the 
male's head looks rounded to me..
