Drove the gravel at Columbia Botttom noonish today. Sifting thru the coots, came up with shoveler, blue- & green-wing teal, gadwall, ringneck, redhead, wood, mallard (definitely the minority), and at least 6 pied-bill grebes. Watched a (very) mixed flock of blackbirds & coots foraging along one of the levees separating two of the ponds -- the whole area was just crawling with black feathers. Other than that, had at least 2 harriers (one harassing a perched red-tail hawk), one kestrel, a few shorebirds, horned larks, various & sundry sparrows. If the killdeer were in, they were silent. The coots aren't in big rafts like one sees at Riverlands, but i think there may be more of them, scattered thru the reeds and along road edges.
