There were about 20 records of Blue Grosbeak in the Miss. Lowlands during the Breeding Bird Atlas project (1986-1992) with records of sightings from all bootheel counties and probably nesting status determined in several of them.

It sounds like there is a challenge to find a nest with young. I think that White-winged Dove and Fish Crow nests are still on the same non documented status list? Send any nesting records to the MBRC for these so we can document it.

As the volunteer who conducts that "sole" Breeding Bird Survey route, I can
state that after publication of the book, Blue Grosbeaks HAVE been counted.
I have detected them on a couple of occasions on the Mississippi River levee
part of the route.

I just went to the source, p. 314, Robbins and Easterla, Birds of
Missouri.

R & E do not state that Blue Grosbeak does not breed in Missouri.
The statement about no breeding records is clearly limited in
reference to one geographic/habitat area.

Under Summer, the following sentence appears:

It is not known to breed in the Mississippi Lowlands (none have
been recorded on the sole BBS route in that region; n = 16 years).
