Here is the list of birds I tallied today around the various oxbow lakes in the Saint Joseph area. (There were an estimated 200,000 + Snow Geese on Muskrat Lake!) Greater White-fronted Goose Snow Goose Ross's Goose Cackling Goose Canada Goose Wood Duck Gadwall American Wigeon Mallard Blue-winged Teal (FOY) Northern Shoveler Northern Pintail Green-winged Teal Canvasback Redhead Ring-necked Duck Greater Scaup (FOY) Lesser Scaup Bufflehead Hooded Merganser Common Merganser Ruddy Duck Pied-billed Grebe (FOY) Bald Eagle Red-tailed Hawk American Kestrel Merlin (chowing down on a meadowlark in a harvested corn field near Mud Lake) American Coot Killdeer (FOY) Greater Yellowlegs (FOY) Ring-billed Gull Herring Gull Rock Pigeon Eurasian Collared-Dove Mourning Dove Downy Woodpecker Northern Flicker Blue Jay American Crow Horned Lark White-breasted Nuthatch Eastern Bluebird American Robin European Starling American Tree Sparrow Dark-eyed Junco Northern Cardinal Red-winged Blackbird Eastern Meadowlark Common Grackle Brown-headed Cowbird * Oxbows visited were: Sugar Lake (Lewis & Clark SP), Horseshoe Lake (Buchanan County), Muskrat Lake, Mud Lake and Lake Contrary. |
