I second the Sapsuckers' vote for persimmons.  In the fall, I head for Busch CA and their wonderful grove of persimmon trees behind the HQ.  The freshly fallen fruit is still delicious after an overnight frost in December.

Lynne and Gary,
Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers drill those horizontal holes
that show up so well in the third photo.  We have a
pair of sapsuckers wintering in our neighborhood.
They are very fond of the persimmons that are still
on the tree.

Hi & Happy Holidays

We simply cannot find an identification for this woodpecker. Can someone help? We're in Lenox, MO - just West of Salem & South of Rolla.
Thanks in advance!

Lynne
