CORRECTION: The shorebirds were seen today at the north end of PELICAN POOL, not Pintail Pool as I stated previously. Oops...This area IS located just past signpost #7 on the auto tour loop.
Forgot to include the Phalaropes at the north end of Pelican Pool. Seen today (5-2-10):
Wilson's Phalarope-150
Red-necked Phalarope-1
Lots of Sedge and Marsh Wrens, Sora, Yellow-headed Blackbird and Common Yellowthroat vocalizing from the cattails along the auto tour loop.  A chorus of Yellow Warbler songs, in all their variable variations, provided nonstop auditory stimulation.
For anyone thinking of birding the north end of Pelican Pool mudflats at Squaw Creek NWR, the light will be best in the afternoon/evening. From 4-6:30pm (on a sunny day) should be best.
Good Birding,
Doug Willis
