Hi all,
For the last 2 evenings, Marvin DeJong and I have observed 40-50 Short-eared owls at dusk on Shelton Prairie.  From Lockwood, go north on Hwy 97 to Hwy VV, turn left and go two miles to Dade County Road 51, turn right.  Shelton Prairie is 1/2 mile north of VV on the right.   http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Lockwood,+MO&sll=36.527295,-95.712891&sspn=33.391695,78.662109&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Lockwood,+Dade,+Missouri&t=h&ll=37.459581,-93.983681&spn=0.004054,0.009602&z=17
This whole area from Horse Creek CA on the south to Niawathe CA on the north is a lightly birded Missouri hotspot, as Charley Burwick has often reminded us.
Good birding,
