Here's one I wrote today to express my frustration that this particular winter seems just to go on and on.

There is a moment
just before daylight
when you know dawn is coming,
yet it seems that
it will never come.

The sky is black.
Only a few stars remain.
Snow lies white upon the ground.
An owl hoots once
without response.

Now all stars are gone.
Black branches are silhouetted
against dark blue.
There are tufts of grass
in the snow.

The first crow should call,
and then another,
as daylight appears.
The owl hoots again
without response.
