Incidentally, in schizophrenia, one state of the afflicted is not conscious of the other -- there is "dissociation of sensibility" -- which is not the case in Eliot's poetry where one aspect of consciousness views and reflects on the other, as also subsumes both under a "we", as in 'Prufrock'.
