Howell Island 10:30 AM: as usual, cold, overcast, drizzle, partially thawed ground
and pond. The crane, Grussy, is foraging at the bottom of the levee, near the
access road. Appears not to have excavated any more areas in the field so far.
Feather coloration has not changed, and no sign of reddish-brown staining on
feathers compatible with known crane habit of smearing self with iron oxide-
containing mud. Grussy stops and spreads wings, must be at least a 4-foot span,
but no intent to fly away. Tolerates my presence as usual.

Happy New Yr to All :-)
