Monday morning going up hwy 13 in Daviess Co. I slowed to look at one of several small groups of birds coming to the roadside. This small flock of 6-7 birds were all Horned Lark except the last one to fly off which was a Snow Bunting. It was seen about half way between the towns of Jameson and Coffey.

Driving back this evening we saw 4 Short-eared Owls along K hwy also in Daviess Co. and then a total of 8 more along U hwy in Livingston Co. on or near Poosey CA. Several of them were perched on wooden fence posts or utilty posts, and one in a tree. The covering of snow really brings them out for better viewing though probably means hunting for prey may be more difficult.

The 9 Trumpeter Swans were seen in the same pool along hwy 190 at Thompson River wetland yesterday a.m. They were not there this eve but may be using another place also and still in the area.

Happy Holidays,
Steve Kinder
