After lunch at home today there was a flurry of bird activity in our yard from approximately 1:30 PM until 2:15 PM.
Forty-five (45) minutes of unabated bird watching!
Brenda and I saw sixteen (16) species of birds in and * flying over our yard.
Birds seen listed in no particular order:
American Robin - 10 to 15
Blue Jay - 10
Brown Creeper - 3/4
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - 3/4
Hairy Woodpecker -1 male
Downy Woodpecker - 2
Red-bellied Woodpecker - 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 5
Golden-crowned Kinglet - 1
Northern Cardinal - 5
Orange-crowned Warbler - 1
Black-capped Chickadee - 2
House Sparrow - 10
Red-breasted Nuthatch - 2
Hermit Thrush - 1
* Chimney Swift - several flyovers
All is quiet again now with hardly any birds in the yard!
* We do not have feeders of any kind currently in our backyard, but will probably be putting some up shortly. (We would like to get a repeat of the Red Crossbills we had visiting our feeders last winter!)

This morning there was not going to be any banding here (but, I did not get the memo). I let our six nets down at 7:30 AM and immediately began catching birds. I gave Mr. Hilsabeck a call and told him that I had captured eight (8) birds an was wondering if he were coming. Hearing of the birds caught he said he would be there in ten minutes. (He had called/emailed all of us that we would not be banding this morning.) A subsequent call to other former participates resulted in the arrival of Dr. Rushin.
The three of us eventually banded thirty-nine (39) birds of thirteen (13) species, with two re-captures. One re-captured bird was an additional speces, making the total number of bird species netted fourteen (14).
Bird Species Banded:
Eastern Phoebe
House Wren
Golden-crowned Kinglet (FOS for me)
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Hermit Thrush
Orange-crowned Warbler
Nashville Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Fox Sparrow
Lincoln's Sparrow
Swamp Sparrow
White-throated Sparrow
Northern Cardinal
Common Yellowthroat
Northern Cardinal
Other birds in the area:
Mourning Dove
Sharp-shinned Hawk
Chimney Swift
Red-bellied Woodpecker

White-breasted Nuthatch
American Robin
European Starling
Eastern Towhee
