Hundreds of tree swallows were circling the treed area just behind the
Blue Grosbeak Trail parking lot this morning at 10 AM. They flew in
undulating clouds, sometimes separating off into groups, covering an
area several hundred yards across. Periodically they would descend
onto the many dogwood trees and feed in a frenzy for a short time
before they took to the air again in flocks. We thought they were
preparing to move south at any minute, but they were still swarming
the area at 2 PM.
