40 NORTHERN BOBWHITE near the visitors' center; 4 NORTHERN SHOVELER
out in the lake; 1 OSPREY fly-by over the Illinois River; 2 BALD EAGLE
talon-touching; 1 RED-SHOULDERED HAWK. Shorebirds included AMERICAN
AVOCET as previously reported, although I counted 11 today, plus 1
DUNLIN and 2 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER. 1 BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER. It was
fun to study the big variety of swallows and their different plumages
at close range.
