This does not surprise me in the slightest.
People who do not respect others generally show this in the way they
communicate.  Many times they use unsuccessful attempts at humor to
make light of their behavior.

In this particular case the follow-up reply pokes fun at those who choose
to communicate with civility.

Seems to me to be a pretty lame attempt to "validate" poor judgement.
Some might think a simple apology would suffice.
