An early morning chilly and foggy hike produced a decent influx of
migrant nesters like parulas(3),yellow-throated(4) ,Louisana
watethrush(3),gnatcatchers this morn along the River and Grotpeter trails
at Castlewood SP.
2 newly arrived BROAD-WING hawks were steamboat whistling away
as the perched in a cottonwood tree
Sad to report that it looks like one of the red-shoulder hawk nests
along the river trail has been abandoned.Saw some fish crows picking
through it this morn
The surprise bird of the morning was a wild turkey.Although common
along the Chubb Trail side of Castlewood SP turkeys are way scarce in the main
section of the park due to higher pedestrain/bike/dog traffic
- higher numbers of migrating kinglets and brown creepers
- 2 singing hermit thrushes along the Grotpeter trail
