During the Breeding Bird Atlas, Hooded Mergansers were confirmed nesting in six atlas blocks and classified as "possible" in four other blocks. Three of those blocks, including one in which nesting was confirmed, were in southern tier counties. In addition, I have seen fledged young Hoodies at Sunshine Lake in Ray County and at another location in Platte County.
