Indeed -- the "recovery" and "rescue" connotations too --
but these are all "dry" (unreclaiming, empty, of no avail),
as the quotation from The Dry Salvages shows. These
folks lived by reckless passion, and that has brought
them to this pass -- an impasse !

Moreover, don't think it's been mentioned yet, but 'Salvage' in a marine context, especially having strayed 'onto the rocks'  has //rescue and recovery connotations//  - see for example
