I got the following from a co-worker and wondered if any avian behavior
specialists would care to comment?

Mike Grant, Chesterfield, MO

I was watching a big hawk (female I assume) out the window. It had what
looked like a snake in its grasp. But as I watched it looked more like a
stick. The hawk kept playing with it and looked like it was practicing
grabbing something and pretending to eat it. I called another person to tell
him and he said that he and another person had seen the same thing last
week. Do hawks practice killing things like that?
