Jim Ziebol and I made a second (unsuccessful) attempt to find the Slaty-backed Gull at Carlyle Lake today. Hundreds of gulls were present between the Marina and the dam, compared with a much smaller number yesterday. While we were searching, Dan Kassebaum found an adult Iceland Gull floating among the Ring-billed Gulls. It took flight after a few minutes and we all lost track of it. Our vantage point was the water's edge at the Marina, looking toward the dam. The Iceland Gull was to the west of the dam. Suddenly the Glaucous-winged Gull appeared, flew past us at the Marina, and disappeared as suddenly as it had come.
