This morning while driving the back roads around the oxbow lakes area south of Saint Joseph, Missouri, I happened upon a PRAIRIE FALCON sitting out in a plowed, harvested corn field. I have seen this species in some previous years in this same area.

The area is this "now plowed" field, bounded on the north by Janston Rd., on the west by 41 Rd., on the south by Hammy Rd. and on the east by 36 Rd. This area is good for Horned Larks and Lapland Longspurs also.

The falcon looked like it might just have dined on one of these species, as the crop was bulging somewhat. I watched it for about 20 minutes and even drew a little sketch. You can see the sketch here.
