We watched the "fly in" on Monday night from the below described location.
For us the birds came in in waves (like snow geese!), and most seemed to be
flying in directly out of the west and following the tree line into the
roost, rather than coming in over the road and over our heads. A few came
from the south. We watched from about 6:30 until dark. We did not observe
the Ibis, but because the birds were not coming in directly overhead (and
many were in large bunches), it would be very hard to say that we got a good
look at the correct angle for every bird. It was still a spectacle to
behold!

Subject: Ibis at heronry

Susan Hazelwood, Barb Duncan (that's Duncan, not Dunklin), Bonnie Heidy and
I were present to watch the exodus from the Scott County heronry this
morning. Among the herons and egrets we observed one adult White Ibis and
one Plegadis species.

Our vantage point was on Hwy. 77, southeast of I-55 (Exit #80), .9 miles
beyond the Sand Prairie Conservation Area sign. We had a pull- off area
beside a large gray mailbox on the right, with 4669 clearly printed on the
box. The majority of the birds came straight at us and passed overhead.
The flight out began about 5:50-5:55, and was largely over by 6:15. The
ibises were among the early fliers.
