A viewer sent his our way... has anyone else noticed this?

Several folks in our area are wondering why there are so few
hummingbirds this year? I live in West Plains and normally I have to
duck when I am sitting on my deck because we have so many. This year I
have seen a male at the beginning of spring and just in the last couple
of days a female has been at my feeders. Is it because of the cold spell
we had earlier in the year or is there another reason like some kind of
disease that has plagued the little birds? Last year at this time I had
to fill my feeders practically every day. I miss the little birds and
have heard the same complaint from a lot of other folks.
