I thought I would check Lake Contrary, Saint Joseph, Missouri, this morning and see if anymore shorebirds had shown up. Not much in the way of shorebirds, Killdeer, Least Sandpipers and a couple of Spotted Sandpipers were all that I could find. However, perched on one of the buoys in the swimming area was a single Common Tern. It was very accomadating, giving me prolonged views (front, back and profile). It stretched its wings a couple of times giving me good views of them. Then it flew around the lake a couple of times giving me good view of it "on the wing". I did not even see one last year, so I appreciated this cooperative bird. There were no other gulls or terns in the area.
